Postcards from ***
AI-Powered Cultural Exchange
AI
Was there a Picasso section on the Berlin wall? Would Van Gogh like the German cake and whould you buy postcards of Venice if they were done by Salvador Dali? Summer holidays for painters: Klimt on the Acropolis or Rembrant on the beach in Barcelona?
Challenge
Goal: Transform passive tourism into active co-creation, proving that technology can deepen - not dilute - shared heritage.
Objective
Commissioned by a major EU cultural institution, we designed a groundbreaking initiative to foster pan-European identity through generative AI and participatory storytelling. The concept: ‘Postcards from Someone You Know’ - a platform where citizens reimagine tourist landmarks in iconic artistic styles (e.g., a Barcelona beach in Rembrandt’s light, Berlin graffiti as Picasso’s sketch), using accessible AI tools. Each AI ‘postcard’ becomes a conversation starter, blending heritage and modernity.
Results
Phase 1 crowdsources these visual reinterpretations. Phase 2 amplifies engagement through response videos from European artists, historians, and creators, unpacking playful cultural queries (Did Klimt visit Athens? Could Rembrandt swim?). Phase 3 evolves dynamically via A/B-tested user interactions, allowing the campaign to organically shape Europe’s collective cultural narrative.
